Tutorly

Integrity and care

It teaches. It does not do your homework.

Using a tutor to understand your work is not cheating. Handing in work you did not do is. Tutorly is built, deliberately, to keep you on the right side of that line.

Where the line is

What Tutorly does, and will not do

What it does

  • Guides you with questions and small steps
  • Reads your attempt and finds the misunderstanding
  • Checks that an idea has clicked before moving on
  • Confirms an answer after you have reasoned to it
  • Explains the why, so the next problem is easier

What it will not do

  • Write your essay or complete your assignment
  • Hand over answers to graded work
  • Do the thinking that is yours to do
  • Let you pass off a copied answer as your own

Our principles

Three commitments we hold

01

Help the student learn

The whole product is built to guide, not to tell. A turn that gives away the answer is treated as a bug, because the copied answer teaches nothing and the guided one is what sticks.

02

Do not do the assignment

Tutorly will not write a finished deliverable for you to hand in. If you ask straight out for the answer to graded work, it acknowledges the wish and offers the next small step instead.

03

Be honest about limits

Tutorly reasons carefully and, like any tutor, can be wrong. It is a learning tool, not an answer key, and it says so. If an answer does not match your textbook, tell it, and it will work through it again with you.

Privacy and care

A student's work is theirs

Your work is yours. It is sent to a model provider to produce your session and for nothing else, under agreements that prohibit training on that traffic. We do not sell it and we do not use it to train anything. You can export or delete any session, or your whole account, from Settings, which removes it from our database.

Tutorly is friendly, encouraging and never condescending, which matters most for younger students. For students under 18 we keep a parent-friendly approach: on the Family plan a parent sees the topics a student has worked on and the time they spent, and never the content of a session, because the work belongs to the student.

If you are a parent or a teacher and something here does not sit right, tell us at privacy@tutorlylabs.com. The Security and Your data pages have the specifics.
