Learning Scientist
Own how Tutorly diagnoses a misunderstanding and decides which question actually helps.
- Location
- Boston, MA, hybrid
- Type
- Full time
- Compensation
- $150,000 to $185,000 plus 0.2% to 0.5% equity
When a student gets a problem wrong, there is a specific wrong idea behind it. You decide how Tutorly finds it and what it does next.
This is a research role with a product output. You bring the evidence on what helps students learn, and you turn it into the moves Tutorly makes turn by turn.
What you would own
- Design the diagnostic approach: how Tutorly reads an attempt for the misconception, not just the mistake.
- Decide the pedagogy of a turn: when to question, when to hint, when to check understanding.
- Review sessions weekly against learning-science principles and file what is wrong, specifically.
- Hold the integrity line: where Tutorly guides, and where it must not do the work.
What we are looking for
- A graduate degree in education, cognitive science or a related field, or equivalent classroom research.
- You can read a transcript and name the misconception behind the wrong answer.
- You can write for a fourteen year old without condescending.
- You are comfortable being the person who says the product is teaching badly here.
How hiring runs
A thirty minute call with a founder, then a paid work session on a real problem from our backlog, three to four hours, then conversations with two people you would work with. Four steps, usually inside two weeks, and we tell you where you stand at every one.
